Q: Who can volunteer at ACAS?
A: ACAS embraces the diversity of the response
to HIV/AIDS and welcomes anyone who respects and upholds our mission,
principles, and values and has the necessary time, energy, and
skills to share. If you are fluent in English, Vietnamese, Chinese,
Filipino or other East or South East Asian languages we need your
help.
Q: Can I volunteer if I am living with HIV/AIDS?
A: Yes, you can! ACAS recognizes the value of
involving Asians living with HIV/AIDS at all levels of the agency
from Board and Committee members to front-line volunteering. You
may also volunteer to meet other people, actively participate
in our communities, and learn new skills.
Q: How much time do I have to volunteer?
A: ACAS requires a minimum of two hours per
week for six months. These hours are flexible and are dependent
on the kind of volunteer work you are assigned.
Q: Why is it important for me to fill out all those information
forms?
A: This process helps to ensure that all volunteers
clearly understand their role and responsibilities to ACAS.
Q: Can ACAS provide transportation or meals when I am
doing my volunteer work?
A: Depending on the kind of volunteer work you
are doing, ACAS may provide TTC tokens or cover other kinds of
expenses like meals upon request. This may be discussed with the
Program Coordinator.
Q: What is the purpose of Volunteer Training?
A: Volunteer Orientation and Training ensures
that you are adequately prepared for the volunteer work you will
be doing. It also ensures consistent skills and knowledge of volunteers
and of the service you provide through ACAS. These training workshops
may also be valuable experience to note on your resume.
Q: If I volunteer, what future opportunities will there
be to apply for paid work at ACAS?
A: ACAS does not guarantee or promise any future
paid work for volunteers. However, ACAS job postings are open
to anyone qualified for the position. ACAS also posts other community
job opportunities in our office and can serve as a reference for
volunteers.
