HIV/AIDS info

HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus and AIDS stands for Acquired Immune-Deficiency Syndrome.

HIV is a virus that continually attacks your immune-system until your body looses its ability to fight other diseases and infections that may be trying to enter your body. HIV is not genetically inherited through your genes and you don't have it just because you're gay, but you can become infected with the virus during your life if you're not careful. AIDS is the last stage during which opportunistic infections occur and your CD4 T-cell (your good "fighter" cells) count drops to less than 200 per cubic millimetre of blood.

You can only get HIV through the exchange of bodily fluids, namely blood and through sexual contact. You cannot get HIV in everyday social settings like light hugging and kissing. The HIV virus is contained in high concentrations in semen and blood. Saliva, pre-cum, urine, tears, feces and sweat all contain HIV but the concentration levels are too low for infection.
