Take The Lead: World AIDS Day Activities at Chinatown Center
(Toronto, ON - Nov 27th, 2007)Asian Community AIDS Services (ACAS) in collaboration with St. Stephen's House is hosting a World AIDS Day fun fair on Saturday, December 1st, 2007, at Chinatown Center Shopping Mall. The fun fair will include performance, panel speakers, quiz, short films and instant arts; and lots of lots of prizes giveaway. It will run from 12 noon to 4 P.M., in the lower level of Chinatown Center, 222 Spadina Avenue, just south of Dundas Street West.
The theme for this year's World AIDS Day is “Take The Lead.” The fun fair will also be focusing on this theme, and looking at ways to pass on the knowledge to the general public, and show them how to “take the lead” to help stopping AIDS. Guest appearance will include Li Xiouping, a local recording artist; performance from Little Pear Garden Collectives; and a few AIDS researchers and sex educators as speakers.
In addition, we will be showing a short musical film “Love under the Sun”, directed by Andy Lau and featured over 20 Hong Kong celebrities from the show business. The film was borrowed from Red Ribbon Center from the Department of Health from Hong Kong. All programs and activities are free and open to the public. We like to thank the Chinatown Center for letting us to use the stage.
Also, our women program will attend a special women event at Wellesley Community Center. The event is titled: “Women & HIV/AIDS: Challenges in our Community.” The events starts at 2 P.M. Please come and listen to the challenges women face and the impact of HIV/AIDS to our community. For more info, please contact Carmen Subibi at women@acas.org or by phone at 416-963-4300 ext 25.
