What this program is about
The goal of this project is to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS among
Asian men who have sex with men by promoting safer sex practices,
risk reduction behaviours and early intervention in culturally appropriate
ways.
Some of the program activities include weekly outreach at bath
houses; monthly outreach at bars and parks; information displays
and condom distribution at community events. We have also developed
a Be Assertive postcard, which shows the image of two Asian men
talking about safer sex.
Success of GAAP is largely due to the contribution of a group
of gay Asian volunteers whose support and participation in all areas
of this program include planning, implementation and evaluation.
By volunteering, these men acquired the skills which enabled them
to educate their peers about reduction behaviours and living a healthy
lifestyle.
