Asians taking a leading role to combat AIDS

Toronto, ON - August 08, 2006 - Asian Community AIDS Services (ACAS) announced today it will hold a press conference at 11 A.M., on Friday, August 11, 2006 to introduce its plan and activities at the upcoming XVI International AIDS Conference (IAC) which runs from August 13 to 18, 2006 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC).

ACAS has been playing a major role in fighting HIV/AIDS in both the local and national levels for over 15 years. With the IAC being held here in Toronto this year and over 20,000 delegates coming from all over the world, ACAS is stepping up its leadership role to raise awareness that "Asians are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS," said Noulmook Sutdhibhasilp, the Executive Director of ACAS. "PHA (People living with HIV/AIDS) leadership is key to a successful program and advocacy." ACAS mobilized a great deal of time and resources into preparing for this global scale event. Areas that ACAS will be involved in at the IAC include Satellite Meetings, Global Village, Southeast and East Asian Networking Zone and scientific presentations. Details will be announced at the press conference.
